Information: The GSX-R 400 R is a pretty rare bike outside of Japan. Most countries only had these imported via the grey market. Nice learner bike with usable power for the street. (44kw/59hp) later bikes (from 1993 onwards) were limited to 53hp. All Japanese bike are limited to 180km/h (112MPH). which is easily bypassed to give it a top speed of aprox. 240km/h (150MPH) There are two SP (Sports Production) versions, suprisingly named SP1 and SP2. The SP versions are more circuit biased and feature a tall (120km/h - 75mph) 1st gear for the SP2 and an even longer 1st gear on the SP (130km/h - 80mph) and close-ratio gearboxes. They also have electronically controlled carburation, through a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) on the left most carb and a system of valves in the gearbox. This also controls ignition timing. The SP1/2´s have a shorter wheelbase, but this is done by dropping the yokes, so can be done on non-SP models too. SP1/2 carbs are 35mm Mikuni''s vs. 33mm for non-SP models. And the SP1/2 have fully adjustable UPSD forks, whereas non-SP´s only have a preload adjuster. Initially, only the SP1/2 had a fully adjustable remote reservoir shock, but from 1991 all GSX-R400''s had them fitted. The single seat cover was only available when ordered with a new bike. These things are VERY rare today.
