Information: Hi everybody!
How are you doing?!! Kawasaki is the choice to feel dominant on the road and enjoy your driving skills ,becasue of the power, comapare to other bikes. 2005 ZX-10R , if i want to say in one word, I would say it''s agressive. Until now ,September 2009, I rode the 2005 Kawasaki ZX-10R for 37,000 km during the sunny, cloudy, rainy, dusty day or night. I have some ideas and oponions about this bike which all came from my experience. Maybe it can help you in some way.
Every product has some negative points and positive points; this bike is not an exception!
*Negative points: Gear box is not perfect just like all the Kawasakies i had before especially if you are going to race (a lot of fast +/- gear changing above 8000rpm) gearbox is an issue; The first 10 to 20 minutes (depends on driving) gearbox might seems ok but after 30 minutes if you still keep riding with high +/- accelaration and shifting gears, gearbox might start working unproperly. For example you are riding with 10,000 rpm suddenly the gear box fall down on the natural postion for about 0.5 second and suddenly comes back on the gear you were before. This is very dangerous and unbalances the bike and the rider which can cause an accident. Another example of the bad respond of the gearbox , under pressure of overdriving, the gears start to not shift as fast and smooth as they suppose to. Therefore, in my idea be careful and easy on gearbox. If you are riding for 20 minutes with alot of gear changing in every minute and the rpm which was 8000plus most of the time, you should give the gearbox alittle break. Ride the bike on 6th,5th, or 4th with engine rotation less than 4000 and try to not change your speed and not to shift any gears and when you do stop the throtle and use the clutch compeltly and give the gear enough time to shift (1 or 2 seconds, it might even takes 3 seconds) and then release the clutch. Don''t turn off and leave the bike for a long period of time just immidiatly after you raced. Ride your bike slowly for atleast 10 minutes before you turn it off. Another negative point, It is time consuming to work on the bike. Several parts need to be open in order to open the desirable part. Aslo the bike is heavy (not comparing with other 1000cc bikes) on the internet i found the dry weight (no gasoline in the tank) of 2005 Kawasaki ZX-10r is 375lbs (measured by Kawasaki manufactory) which is much lighter than 2008 kawasaki ZX10R or 2008 suzuki GSXR. In my idea with the technology that we had until 2005 and the price of the bike and the desirable feeling that this bike suppose to give to it''s rider, the weight should be around 300lbs not around 350lbs. Weight effects bike performance, handling, fuel efficiency, energy for riding the bike, and the time that rider can ride the bike before feeling tired. Getting a higher MPG depends on many variables. Loads, rider weight, windshield form, the way the rider use to sit on the bike during riding, exust, engine condition, air filter, oil filter, engine oil , weight of every single part that bike build and made of, tires , suspentions and their settings, the condition of the road you are riding on, and even the condition of enviroment that you are riding in (weather temperture, wind angle, wind speed, humidity) effects the MPG that you will get on your bike. Mpg that i get from this bike is 28mpg average (in city and highway) or 8.40 Liter per 100 kilometers. I think it''s terrible. It should be 4 liter per 100 km (58.8 mpg). With One full tank - which means when you open the gas tank the gasoline is just under the cap bike can travel (about 130miles=209.17km) atleast 120 miles=193 km but still it depends on your riding and the bike overall condition. The most amount of Gasoline that I put in the fuel tank was 5.250 gallon=19.00 liter with no drop to out side . 5.250 gallon that i put was all in the inside wall of the tank (when you open the gas tank you will still see a silver color hole like aluminum). All the fuel that i put was in the aluminum part. I read that the capicity of the tank of this bike is 4.5gallon which i think it means the sugested capicity of fuel in your bike. If you put more than 17.03 liters (4.5 gallons) gasoline, some of the gasoline will drop after you start riding and turning. There is a hole on the top of the gas tank just under the cap which will direct extra fuel to the ground (for the engine to have better explosion) plus a small amount of gasoline will came out from the gas tank if you completly full the gas tank. Another negative point is the air dynamic of the bike especially the way that rider approches the air at high speed (more than 130 km). I think the rider seat and the highest point on the gas tank should be lower. Also the handles on the handlebars should be a little bit lower in my idea ( these points become noticable after passing 120mph). Also the bike viberates too much after 8000 rpm which does effect the perfomance of the bike and the rider.
Positive points: Adorable design of the bike attracts it''s viewers. The bike is powerfull just like most of the Kawasakies in their class compare to other brands. One of the reasons that makes the 2005 Kawasaki ZX-10R enjoyable is the amount of the power that the engine gives the rider during the riding. 2005 ZX-10R makes noises, turns heads almost every where you go. It gives you alot of enjoyment during riding. The more you ride it the more you get out of it. When you learn how to handle the bike you are just waiting for turns because you enjoy passing your competition in turns!!! It turns very well. you just need to learn where to put your weight in what position to have balance during the turns. The more you ride it you get better records. 2005 Kawasaki ZX10R has some negative sides but it gives you more power during the riding which if you can handle it you defenetly appriciate it. When you go to the high RPM the sound is just like a man who is shouting and that sound can hear from several hundred meters and it is so enjoyable at midnights when everywhere is silent and dark. It makes noise more than any other bike and when you win the races it makes you proud becasue the bike itself already got attention, so every body is waiting to see what it''''s rider does!!! 1st gear can reach 104 mph= 167.336 km. you can ride 103 mph with 1st gear but as soon as it reach the 104mph the rpm drop down. 2nd gear goes 128mph=205.952km 3rd gear goes 154mph=247.786 km (These numbers are not 100% sharp because i just read the speed from the speedometer and speedameters are usually not exact). As orginal from manufactory, front sprocket of 2005 Kawasaki ZX-10R has 17 teeth and rear sprocket has 39 teeth. 2005 Kawasaki ZX10R has power, you just need to ride it to get a better handling and joy from the bike. It has many details that should be corrected but you will enjoy the bike by riding it.
